Care, naturally

Leather Care Guide

The best care is simple: keep leather dry, condition it sparingly, and let its character develop with use.

Care notesFor everyday use
info

Full-grain leather is a living material. Small variations in grain, colour, and marks are part of its character—not defects.

1. Start gently

  • Dust your piece with a clean, soft, dry cloth before applying anything.
  • Test every conditioner or wax on a hidden area first and allow it to dry before treating the full piece.
  • Never soak leather or put it in a washing machine.

2. Everyday care

  • Wipe spills promptly with a slightly damp cloth, then let the leather air-dry at room temperature.
  • Keep your piece away from radiators, hairdryers, open flames, and prolonged direct sun.
  • Avoid applying products too often. Over-conditioning can soften leather excessively and darken its finish.

3. Conditioning and waxing

When the surface begins to feel dry—usually every three to six months—apply a small amount of neutral leather conditioner or natural beeswax with a soft cloth. Work in a thin, even layer, let it absorb, then buff gently. Less is better.

Suede, nubuck, and brushed finishes need different products. Do not use cream, oil, or beeswax on them; ask the atelier for the right method first.

4. Storage

  • Empty bags before storing and reshape them with clean, unprinted paper if needed.
  • Keep leather in its dust bag or a breathable cotton pillowcase in a cool, dry place.
  • Do not store leather in airtight plastic, beside damp walls, or under heavy pieces that could flatten its shape.

5. Water and stains

Blot moisture with a dry cloth—do not rub—and allow the piece to dry naturally. For oil, ink, mould, or a stubborn stain, stop experimenting with household cleaners and contact the atelier. An early photo helps us recommend the safest next step.

6. Let the patina happen

Natural leather will deepen in colour, soften, and develop a patina as you carry it. These changes are part of the material’s story. Regular gentle cleaning and occasional conditioning will help it age beautifully without taking away the marks that make it yours.
